How does our barrier repair serum work?

1. Hydration 

Tremella, the star of our serum, is rich in polysaccharides, in particular beta glucans, which are excellent at retaining moisture by forming a thin breathable barrier to prevent water evaporating from the skin’s surface, and can work wonders in strengthening the skin's protective barrier. Unlike Hyaluronic Acid, Tremella mushroom doesn't pull moisture away from the epidermis. It helps stimulate the natural production of your own HA, keeping the skin hydrated and plump. Glycine is part of the skin's natural moisturising factors (NMF) and plays a role in regulating hydration and pH levels of the epidermis. 

2. Targets the skin microbiome and protective barrier

Our serum features a milk derived bifida probiotic, which has been scientifically proven to balance the complexion, reduce redness, skin irritation and fortify the skin barrier. Urea is naturally present in the epidermis as a component NMF, is essential for the integrity of the stratum corneum and plays a significant role in skin cell proliferation. Multiple clinical trials have shown that skincare containing urea demonstrated significant improvement in dry and scaley skin conditions like ezcema, psoriasis and dermatitis. 

3. Stimulates your skin's antioxidant capabilities

Unlike other antioxidants, Tremella mushroom actually boosts your skin's own defence mechanisms against oxidative stress, by activating the enzymatic production of super oxide dismutase.

4. Wound healing & collagen production

Polysaccharides found in Tremella go beyond hydration, and extend into promoting wound healing by stimulating collagen production. This means Tremella is beneficial for skin conditions like acne (and especially those who love to pick!). Glycine also helps strengthen the skin matrix, repair and regenerate the skin.

5. Restore the pH of your skin

A healthy skin barrier sits at 5.5 pH (slightly acidic). It has been shown that those suffering with eczema have an alkaline skin pH. Additionally, it has also been observed that those who have acne also have skin with higher pH (more alkaline). These findings mark the importance of balancing the pH back to normal ranges for healthy glowing skin free from acne and eczema. Our Serum is pH balanced to be at 5.5 to restore homeostasis in the skin barrier.
